Chado Photography

Chado, known as Japanese Tea Ceremony, is an activity brought together the preparation and presentation of matcha (green tea powder). An art known as Oteme.

Zen Buddhism was one of the primary influences of Chado. Senchado, while similar to Chado, uses tea leaves rather than power.

I was lucky enough to take Chado lessons at Everett Community College, for free, as a part of their Japanese Cultural Resource Center. Along with nine others, I learned how to prepare and serve Matcha, in the span of four lessons. A few moths later, I was able to serve Match at the tea ceremonies held during Everett Community College’s Japanese Anime and Manga Arts Festival.

While these photos were taken for a photography class, small studio made be myself, they are heavily inspired by preparing matcha for a ceremony.
